A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life
I studied Modern Languages at The Queen's College, University of Oxford, and then went into teaching. Subsequently, I trained as a psychotherapist at the Westminster Pastoral Foundation in London, where I gained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Advanced Psychodynamic Counselling. I have since obtained a diploma in the Foundations of Analytical Psychology: An Introductory Course in Jungian and Post-Jungian Concepts, and I have completed a course in Clinical Practice from a Jungian Perspective. I have many years’ experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
As a therapist, I focus on what the client is bringing to the sessions and helping them to process their preoccupations. This can enable them, for example, to release emotions that have got stuck in their Nervous System (drawing on Polyvagal Theory), to understand their patterns in relationship which cause friction or distress, to become more confident in expressing themselves and standing up for themselves, to get out of ruts in relating or working, to find ways of living that more closely align with their real selves, values and ambitions, including those that have been given up for various reasons, and to develop an adult relationship with their parents.
I have worked with people who are co-dependent, anxious, depressed, bereaved, have low self-esteem or suffer from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and Early Relational Trauma or Complex PTSD. When appropriate, I work with clients' dreams, which can bring in my Jungian training. I am also experienced in working with gay men and women, and with spirituality. (I am a member of the BACP Spirituality Division.) In summary, I follow clients' process and help them to develop more satisfying lives.

I work from private offices located in Brighton Therapy Centre which is easily accessible from the surrounding areas such as Hove
Sessions last 50 minutes, and take place weekly, either at a Therapy Centre in Brighton or by Skype. I currently charge £75 per session. I don't expect you to pay when you are on holiday, or when I'm on holiday, as long as you notify me at least a week in advance. This would apply for up to 8 of your holidays. I charge for all other cancellations, for any reason.
When you contact me, I will give you the times of my vacancies, and your first session would be an 'assessment' of your needs and is designed for us both to find out if we can work together. There is no obligation either way.
Following a lifelong interest in Jungian and post-Jungian theory and practice, I have undertaken further study with the Society of Analytical Psychology in London. This is one aspect of a wider interest in spirituality which is expressed in my two published books:
A Strange Fire - Spirituality For The 21st Century: Amazon.co.uk: Sagar, David: 9780244503017: Books
James's review of Reflections on an Empty Grave
This selection of poetry and prose is a perfect companion to David’s first volume of the same, ‘A Strange Fire’, standing as it also does on a foundation of Transcendental Meditation, Vedanta and Jungian analysis. Moreover, herein David is explicit in his debt to Western spiritual teacher James Swartz.
Both works merit multiple re-readings, and I would encourage the reader to try speaking some portions of each out loud as well, for your own voice becomes a mouthpiece for eternity to talk with itself. And that is the key to these offerings: in crisp, efficient and beautiful language, they remind you that you are pure awareness. Sometimes it may be a confronting process, but always stimulating - you can’t help but be moved by the truth that resonates from the page, and have your frequency simultaneously adjusted.
I very strongly recommend this book, and am keen to see if a third volume follows. Thank you sincerely for bringing these profound and touching words to the public, David.
